   Name: JACKIE

   Breed: Chihuahua - Terrier Mix
   Gender: Male
Age: 3 yrs. 6 mo.  Birthday: 12/2018 (est)
Weight: Small (less than 30 pounds)
   Milo ID: 30807
   Current Location: Foster Care
Jackie was surrendered to Milo because his owner has become ill. He is very sweet but does need help with house training. If he can go home with his friend Princess that would be amazing! He really loves her and is so happy when he is with her, if not, we do ask that there is another small dog in the home that is confident and can help Jackie become more open. No children for this guy as he was roughly handled when growing up. Jackie is sweet and playful.

Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier - Border Collie Mix
   Gender: Female
   Age: 6 yrs. 10 mo.  Birthday: 9/2015
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
Referral placement - adoption assisted by Milo.

   Milo ID: 30791

*Luna is a perfect dog in the right circumstances -- eager to please, affectionate with her people, playful, and very intelligent. With daily play, she settles nicely in the house and will happily snuggle at your feet or on the sofa. She is a serious fetch dog, but also loves to play tug or wrestle with familiar dog friends. She responds to over 20 commands reliably and demonstrates serious focus during “go find it” nose games. She is crate-trained but also trustworthy left alone unsupervised and uncrated in the home. She adores the people in her life and is well-loved by most people who know her because she is so affectionate and bright.*

*Luna must go to an all-adult home with a medium-large yard that can provide daily play since she is still nervous walking on leash in the suburbs and is not always appropriate at busy dog parks. She is very uncomfortable around children and needs slow introductions to men. That said, she has a long memory for who her friends are, and being in a group with her people and dog friends builds her confidence outside the house. She could do well in a home with a non-dominant dog and has lived well with dogs of varying sizes and energy levels.*

*Please contact Milo and email luna.plays.fetch@gmail.com with questions or inquiries. *

   Gender: Female
Age: 4 yrs. 1 mo.  Birthday: 5/2018 (est)

   Milo ID: 30789

Johnnie is a sweet, smart girl who has had a rough time in life. This young adult has been excellent mother to her large litter of seven. Prior to coming into the Milo Foundation foster program, she found a den (under a 30x8 foot deck) to deliver and raise her litter. She was fortunate that the community in Stockton was concerned and supportive of her with over 8 different people working together to feed and monitor her. Once pulling the pups from under the deck, we were able to coax her into the kennel for a ride to safety and a better life. Since being in foster she has: had a chain cut from her neck with wire cutters, learned that it is ok to go in and out of the house, found that food will always be there when she needs it, learned that hands can be used to caress instead of hit, stopped constantly looking for an escape route, and learned to take a deep breath and relax as she is safe.

Now it is her turn, Johnnie (named after one of the community members who spent countless hours earning her trust) is ready to find a home of her own. She will need a patient, nurturing home environment where she can be supported in learning to trust and exploring the world a new. She is a smart girl! She is house trained and crate trained (for short amounts of time). She loves her person!! She prefers to spend her days at your side and will let you know when she has to go out by coming to tap you leg/lap. She attends zoom meetings on a regular basis as a sidekick, gazes thoughtfully into her foster moms eyes and gives sweet kisses. She has athletic ability. She loves to go on walks. She can do so with a collar but a harness is preferred initially due to the neck trauma she experienced with the chain. She has not been to parks to run about given nursing her pups, but has romped gleefully in the yard.

It is recommended that the first excursions be on leash and long lead line, as she has been a stray, prior to coming into the Milo Foundation program. Overtime she will develop trust and a sense of belonging in her new home as she has in her foster home.

Johnnie could benefit from a home with undivided attention for her, and support for her in introducing her to new dogs and people. While she has interacted with other dogs (with her tail wagging) and played with her puppies, she has been very protective of the pups and so has not had the opportunity to interact independent of them with other dogs. She has also successfully met a number of new people. Given her mistreatment in the past slow introductions are best with support and reassurance. She is a loving and very playful young dog, who needs love and support to grow into the great girl that she was meant to be!

   Name: BRONSON

Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier - Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix
   Gender: Male
Age: 3 yrs. 2 mo.  Birthday: 5/2019 (est)
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
   Milo ID: 30770
   Current Location: Foster Care
Bronson was part of a litter of pups who came to Milo last June. The litter was brought to the Milo Sanctuary after the recently homeless owner of their service dog mom was trying to live in her car....with eleven puppies! He was adopted in July. He was then surrendered because he was demanding and had some safety issues for the family, and though they tried, they did not know how to handle him. We were fortunate to get him into foster care with our Pittie-savvy foster Emma, who has been working with him for about 5 weeks. Here is what his foster mom now says about him.

Bronson is an extremely sweet and happy dog! He can be a little shy and unsure at times but is eager to learn. He picks up on boundaries and rules quickly when shown properly and consistently. He loves to play and when introduced slowly he loves having dog friends. But he loves his humans! He loves to follow and know where his human is and wants to hang out and snuggle.

Bronson is still a young dog and while he does know some basic things he is needing a forever home that will continue to help build his confidence, work on his foundation and help him grow into a wonderful companion. He has a history of talking back and sometimes being stubborn, but with the right owners he should grow out of that.

He is potty and crate trained. He loves the water and is getting good at his leash skills. He likes to talk and loves games with the ball and laying in the sunshine. Bronson is on the smaller side weighing about 55 pounds, and very cute, overall a very happy dog!

We feel that now after some good training Bronson is ready to find his forever home, with dog savvy adults.

Meet Cali! She is a sweet girl who is very nervous and still coming out of her shell. She will need to be in a home with another dog or two who are very confident and can show her the steps. She needs owners who are very patient with her as she will run away if you try to pet her. If there are kids in the house, we ask that they are above 13 and can respect her space as she is really nervous and needs time to open up. She is a sweet girl who takes time to warm up to her people!

   Name: MAYA

Breed: Labrador Retriever - American Bulldog Mix
   Gender: Female
Age: 3 yrs. 5 mo.  Birthday: 1/2019 (est)
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
   Milo ID: 30712
   Current Location: Foster Care
Surrender/Foster notes: " Maya is a wonderful pup, but has high anxiety in our very social, noisy household. She has a difficult time meeting strangers and seems upset by noisy, wiggly, new children and we are very concerned about her potentially having a dangerous interaction. We have kept all new children out of our house for 7 months. She will need a household without kids. We will happily provide all of our training to the new adopters. We've worked very hard with her and shes come an amazingly long way from the time we brought her home. She didn't appear to have been socialized with people or animals in her previous life, and wasn't completely house trained or trained at all. She's really doing great with her training and we'd like her new family to have as much info as possible. She'd like a home where her people are home often, she has separation anxiety and cannot be left in a crate or yard. She would do best in a house with a yard, she requires a lot of exercise but can't run off leash. She requires adults only who have experience with dogs with behavioral issues and no kids at all.

"We are hoping to find a new, loving home for our sweet girl - she's a part of our family and we absolutely adore her, but we feel that she would be a happier, less anxious pup in a quieter home without children.

She has a hard time with meeting new people in the house, and is especially anxious/nervous around new children (she occasionally snarls at our youngest daughter -- 6 years old -- when she's bothered while sleeping, but generally tolerates our kids and enjoys playing with them). Because Maya reaches her threshold so easily around new children who tend to be noisy and wiggly, we haven't been able to have children other than ours at home since we adopted her.

We've been working with a behavior specialist who believes that she can progress, but our hectic household is not ideal for the classical conditioning "set ups" that our trainer has provided instruction on, and we just don't see a promising way forward at this point. It's not sustainable for our family to not have children over indefinitely, and Maya doesn't do well locked in a crate or another room -- she gets very upset. We've sought a second and third opinion from other trainers who both suggested that Maya was a wonderful girl, but perhaps would do better in a different household without children.

Thanks so much for reading this."

Ashes and Scar are two owner surrendered kitties. Their owner has declining health so they are looking for a new home.

Foster notes: Scar is a handsome kitty who is somewhere between a heckin' chonker and hefty chonk as analyzed on the chonk chart . Although initially nervous, he will want to earn your love and affection. He's a sensitive boy who took a few days to warm up in my home. Once he felt safe and secure, his adorable personality began to shine. After a few days of some one-on-one time in the comfort of his carrier, he became brave enough to come out and ask for some snuggles. He still prefers the comfort of his bed but will love to nap near you and will meow for you to give him some attention. This laid back, quiet boy is looking for a patient, loving human who will give him time to come out of his shell. Scar will be a great companion for someone who likes to enjoy life’s quiet moments.

Ashes and Scar are two owner surrendered kitties. Their owner has declining health so they are looking for a new home.

Foster notes: If you are looking for a cat that is a total lovebug, then this fluffball wants to warm your lap! She's a world-class purrer and wants nothing more to get belly rubs and snuggles all day by her human. She's a chatty social butterfly and loves to be where the action is happening--she'll happily come to you when you call for her.

Ashes is the perfect host for all your future dinner parties post-quarantine. She briefly met a relative's small dog and didn't seem to mind him but may take some time warming up to other cats. She would be a great companion for someone who wants a snuggle partner for life.

Sweet little kitten looking for a forever home!

***MILO'S desire is to adopt out our kittens in pairs, or to a home with another compatible cat. Kittens do much better with feline companionship, are usually not more work, have a happier time, and people need not feel guilty about too much time alone! We will make adoption decisions on a case by case basis, taking into consideration the personality of the kittens, and whether they are bonded to a sibling, or seem to prefer to be a solo feline (rare). For young, newly available kittens, we will give preference to those willing to adopt in pairs. For older teenager kittens, we are more open to compromise, as long as the home setup is conducive. Our goal is always the longterm happiness of the animal, and the best fit in a home. Young kittens are not usually a good match for an elderly resident cat.***

*Adoption fee $175, or $300 for a pair*

*Foster Update* "Tania is a confident older kitty who is looking for a loving home to live out her golden years in. Tania likes to be perched up high and watch the world around her. She spends a lot of her time sleeping but is loyal to her favorite humans, and will dote on them with licks and nudges. She enjoys just chilling with people and is pretty low maintenance. Tania appreciates when people let her come to them, and easily makes friends with gentle new people. Tania is a fierce little lady who is eager to snuggle by her new companion(s).:

Sweet older lady that would love a home! She is very independent, and would prefer to come to you at her own pace. Tanya can enjoy cuddles but is particular about where she is touched. We ask that she go to an experienced home who can read her cues and respect her space when she wants. Tanya is a beautiful gem who will bring lots of love to the right household.

Meet Hazel!

A DNA test was done showing she is Pekingese and Shepherd!

She is a good dog waiting for her perfect home. She is known to jump high fences even with her person around so she needs a very secure high fence and will need to be monitored when outside. She will need a household that is predictable and with adults only who are dog savvy. She is wary of men and tends to bond towards women more. She can get comfortable towards men but it takes her a longer time to be able to trust them. Once she is bonded to one person she will protect that person. She is a dog that you have to be cautious when opening doors and she tends to want to run outside.

She cannot live with cats, and can be possessive of her toys with other dogs.

Some of the people who helped save her are chipping in to offer a whole training package with a great certified trainer just for you and Hazel!

Ozzy Girl is shining more and more every day! She loves to be brushed and is such a sweetheart once she opens up to you. Ozzy Girl never lived in the rescuer’s apartment but she was very friendly. “She always waited for me by the door, talked to me, and would roll over, wanting to be stroked on her tummy.” Ozzy Girl is looking for a patient home that will let her come out of her beautiful shell at her own speed.

Ozzy Girl is the mother of fellow resident Twinkle and they’re currently together in foster care. They came from living on the streets in North Richmond. Brought to Milo by a wonderful person who takes care of ferals and helps them to get adopted. The rescuer was able over time to encouraged them to eat in her backyard with the rest of the ferals. Ozzy Girl and Twinkle lived in her yard for just about a year and a half. It takes some time for them to get used to people, particularly strangers, but in foster care they are making great strides!

It would be great if they could be adopted together but no matter what, her adopter needs to go slow and allow Ozzy Girl time to open up and glow! She is ready for her forever home!

Foster Update:

"Twinkle is the sweetest little kitty. He’s a sucker for head and belly rubs and loves his good morning cuddles. He is chatty, but with the softest meow. He loves playing with a feather toy and is incredibly gentle with humans.”

Twinkle is a lovely little boy who is still learning to trust. He came to Milo with his mom, Mama Kitty Ozzy Girl from a wonderful person who takes care of ferals and helps them get adopted. They came from living on the streets in North Richmond. Their rescuer was able over time to encouraged them to eat in her backyard with the rest of the ferals. Zuni and Quinn are a Bonded Pair and must be adopted together. Bonded pairs have a Reduced Adoption Fee.

Quinn (previously Comanche) is a beautiful Blue Merle Australian Shepherd who arrived at Milo with his girl pal Zuni. They arrived sorely neglected and each at least ten pounds underweight, Zuni at only 23 pounds. After a week in foster care, the foster reports they are improving well!

They are a wonderfully loving and gentle couple. Here are some characteristics we’ve noticed about them during the past few days: Neither is house trained, but Zuni is progressing fairly well

-Good appetites; They eat 3-4 good meals per day.

-Friendly to all people, gentle and loving

-Not interested in toys

-Love car rides, both have difficulty getting in and out

-Share with each other and no disagreements

-Get along with other dogs, not tested with cats

-Quinn has not barked or made any vocalizations

-Zuni is outgoing, energetic and constantly seeks attention

They were separated for about 5 hours when we took Quinn to the groomer. Surprisingly both acted normally when apart, but Zuni was definitely happy to see him when we picked Quinn up. They do follow each other around whenever they’re together. Such a sweet couple...

Zuni and Quinn are a Bonded Pair and must be adopted together. Bonded pairs have a Reduced Adoption Fee.
