In these tough economic times, animals are being dumped, abandoned, and surrendered in every increasing numbers, while adoptive homes are in short supply, as people cut back and are forced to move. Add to this the cutbacks at shelters, less staff hours, furloughs, and less opportunities for animals to be adopted or rescued. It is a time of crisis in California shelters. There are over 200 shelters (municipal and private) across California, and there is not enough money at many of these to keep them open or staffed, to say nothing of caring for the animals within! An animal is killed every 8 seconds in shelters across the U.S. It is time for every rescue group, every humane organization, and every person who cares, to step up and do something to help!
